Recommended Prerequisites

This course unit connects with the following course units related to the Master’s Program in Information Science: "Digitisation and Preservation of Digital Information", "Project Management", "Marketing and Communication in Information Services". In addition, the acquirements obtained in the following courses related to the Information Science Undergraduate Program are considered particularly relevant: Archival Theory, Information Sociology, Information Law, Systems and Information Policy; Design, Specification and Planning of Information Systems and Computer Applications.

Teaching Methods

Teaching methodology:

- Lectures and practical classes supported by multimedia resources and bibliographic resources;

- Independent reading and summary of reference texts;

- Individual and/or group practical tasks;

- Seminars.

 

The teaching-learning process is supported by an e-learning platform.

 

According to the Regulamento de Avaliação de Conhecimentos da FLUC

(http://www.uc.pt/fluc/regulamentos/docspdf/reg_aval_conhecim_2_ciclo_.pdf), it is applied the system of continuous assessment.

 

Evaluation methodology:

- Preparation and delivery of a theoretical-practical work: case study (50%);

- Attendance, participation in classes and performance of the proposed tasks (20%);

- Seminar reports (30%).

Learning Outcomes

Based on the analysis of organizational information systems, in their genesis and contexts, this course aims to develop skills at the level of the design and the development of actions towards the management of information flow, especially in what concerns critical factors.

Regarding to the information and knowledge organizational management, after completing this course the students should be able to recognize and criticize foundations, concepts, scenarios and trends; recognize and reflect on theoretical and practical aspects of the information needs and uses and the decision making process; recognize and apply generic and specific principles and methods; perform a consistent diagnosis and assessment of the information flow in systems; recognize and criticize applicable aspects of the information policies and accountability, assessing its impacts and benefits.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to acquire the following competencies described in the Euro-Referencial ID document: implementing the information law (I03), global management of information (M01); diagnosis and assessment (M06).
