Teaching Methods

This course will make use of a variety of texts related to the topics of the syllabus in order to address the structural aspects of the language. Students will carry out systematization exercises on all the grammatical/structural topics studied.

Learning Outcomes

In accordance with the objectives set by CEFR for level B2, after completing this course students should master the structures of the Portuguese language, in various contexts, and be able to:

  1. easily interact with native speakers, using clear and detailed statements on a variety of topics;
  2. give informed opinions and defend points of view;
  3. write correctly on several issues of general interest, using a wide vocabulary;

understand long and relatively complex oral and written texts on various topics.

1.Thematic units and essential vocabulary

Citizenship.Current Affairs.Interpersonal Relationships.Portuguese as a polycentric language (cultural and linguistic differences between different language norms)

2.Grammar

a) Morphosyntax

1.Revision of already learned verbal tenses; verbal periphrases with infinitive and gerund

2.Reinforcing special or more complex cases of noun inflection

3.Pronouns (mesoclisis), determiners and quantifiers (agreement)

4.Reinforcing prepositions and prepositional phrases. Prepositional dependence

5.Conjunctions, coordinating locutions and subordinating phrases

6.the structure of the simple sentence

7.Complex sentence structure, passive structures, direct and indirect speech

b)Lexical semantics (word formation, denotation, connotation, polysemy, idioms, specific vocabulary), phrasal semantics and lexical/referential cohesion

c)Textual cohesion: argumentative and comparison/contrast connectors; numbering, ordering, reformulating and reinforcing markers
