Level A2 in Portuguese language.

Teaching Methods

Focusing on the students' communicative needs, in terms of reading, comprehension and written production, varied activities will be designed, individually, in pairs or in groups, often through the simulation of everyday situations.

The student will come into contact with various social domains, situations, types of written texts, communicative acts, themes and notions that are necessary for the use of language in different communicative activities.

Self-regulation activities are also planned.

Learning Outcomes

The objective of this curricular unit (u.c.) is the development of written communicative competence in Portuguese, in accordance with what is defined in the CEFR for this level.

Upon completing u.c., the student should be able to:

• Understand texts in which everyday language or work-related or study-related language predominates;

• Understand descriptions of events, feelings and desires in personal letters;

• Produce, with some autonomy, clear, articulated and coherent written statements, in the private and public domains, on known subjects or of personal interest, namely in educational and professional contexts, in common everyday situations;

• Write personal letters to describe experiences and impressions;

• Report events and experiences, express wishes or ambitions and briefly justify the reasons for a project or an idea;

• Explain views on an issue, presenting advantages and disadvantages of various options.

Syllabus

In articulation with the thematic areas foreseen in the contents of the u.c. of Portuguese Language Structures, the following approach is planned:

A) Types of text (written)

e.g.: descriptive text; narrative text; expository text; report of medium extension (stories, testimonies); interview; short comment; news; injunction; short reports.

B) Communicative acts:

• Narrating events or the plot of a book or movie

• Expressing reactions to an event

• Requesting, expressing and justifying opinions in detail

• Expressing agreement/disagreement firmly, with reservation or with doubt

• Explaining and justifying plans or projects

• Expressing dreams, desires and ambitions

• Accepting / hesitating / giving in to suggestions / proposals

• Advising, recommending and warning

• Commenting on phrases, texts or images

• Being courteous, using politeness strategies appropriate to the situation.

C) Cohesion devices

- Speech connectors;

- Anaphora (vs. deixis).
