Level A2 in Portuguese language.

Teaching Methods

Focusing on the students' communicative needs, in terms of oral comprehension and production, dynamic, interactive, individual, pair or group activities will be designed, often through the simulation of everyday situations.

The student will come into contact with various social domains, situations, types of oral texts, speech acts, themes and notions that are necessary for the use of language in different communicative activities.

Self-regulation activities are also planned.

Learning Outcomes

The objective of this curricular unit (u.c.) is the development of oral communicative competence in Portuguese, in accordance with what is defined in the CEFR for this level.

Upon completing the u.c., the student should be able to:

• Understand the essentials of an oral sequence that focuses on current issues at work, school and leisure

• Interact orally with other speakers in different contexts, in the private and public domains, namely in educational and professional contexts, manifesting discursive and pragmatic skills to deal efficiently and autonomously, with different types of interlocutors, in common everyday situations;

• Produce articulate and coherent oral statements on matters of interest

• Report events/experiences, express desires or ambitions and briefly justify the reasons for a project or an idea

• Explain views on an issue, presenting advantages and disadvantages of different options.

Syllabus

In articulation with the thematic areas provided for in the contents of the u.c. of Portuguese Language Structures, the following approach is envisaged:

A. Types of text (oral)

e.g.: descriptive text; narrative text; expository text; report of medium extension (stories, testimonies); interview; short comment; news (television, radio); injunction; short documentaries (television, radio)

B. Communicative acts:

• Report events or the plot of a book/ film

• Express reactions to an event

• Request, express and justify opinions in detail

• Express agreement/disagreement firmly, with reservation or with doubt

• Explain and justify plans or projects

• Express dreams, desires and ambitions

• Accept /hesitate /give in to suggestions /proposals

• Advise, recommend and warn

• Comment on ideas

• Be courteous, using politeness strategies appropriate to the situations.
