Teaching Methods
The methods used are those recommended for teaching a non-native language:
- Individual and collective production of different types of written texts;
- Use of revision techniques for text improvement;
- Comprehension/interpretation of written texts;
- Teacher-students and student-student verbal interaction (presentation of topics for writing; preparatory discussion before writing);
- Metalinguistic reflection;
- Theoretical presentation;
- Application of contents taught to situations of use.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students should:
– be able to understand texts written in familiar, standard Portuguese; read/understand formal and informal correspondence concerning everyday matters;
– be acquainted with forms of address and courtesy formulas in Portuguese taking into account the specificities of the written code;
– be able to understand newspaper reports as well as short stories and texts about topics of general and personal interest;
– be able to write coherent and cohesive texts about their experiences, ambitions and personal interests.
