Recommended Prerequisites

It is advisable that the students have already done the following courses: Behavior Modification, Behavioural and Cognitive Models, Psychopathology I and II, and Developmental Psychology I and II.

Teaching Methods

Lectures and interactive methods. Practical activities: participant modeling techniques, role playing, case analysis and discussion, and feedback.

Objectives

To endow the students with knowledge about the most frequent problems in school, sports, family and health contexts, their understanding and therapeutic intervention based in cognitive-behavioural models.

 

Learning Outcomes

- Basic knowledge about conceptual and intervention cognitive-behavioural models.

- Specific knowledge about some of the most prevalent problems in childhood and adolescence, that can be expressed in several contexts

- Knowledge about the application of cognitive-behavioural models and strategies in school, sports and health, family and traumatic settings

- Capacity of elaborating simple case formulations and develop specific therapeutic interventions in the specific contexts where they are expressed.

- Learning paradigms and conceptual models in cognitive-behavioural therapy

- Application of cognitive-behavioural models and therapeutic strategies to children and adolescents in school and sports contexts:

    -Behavioural problems in the classroom

    -School refusal

    -Social anxiety Disorder (interaction and performance anxiety)

    -Depression

- Application of cognitive-behavioural models and therapeutic strategies to children and adolescents in stressful situations:

      - Birth of a brother

      - Separation or divorce

      - Grief

      - Accidents and other traumatic events

- Application of cognitive-behavioural models and therapeutic strategies to children and adolescents with health related problems (inpatients, medical conditions and pain)
