Teaching Methods

The expository and active methods will be the taught methodologies in this unit. Given the nature of the topics covered electronic resources  will be used extensively. Using the co-operative teaching method the students participate in research investigation activities on the Internet, they systematically organize the gathered information and present a report of key findings, in a lecture addressed to their class. The methods of direct instruction and simulation will be used to train the students in conducting a M.Savickas “career style interview" (f2f and online version).

Learning Outcomes

This unit covers the main principles and practices of the activity of counselling over the Internet (e-mail and chat) focusing, for purposes of illustration, on the career area.
In general, it is expected that the students acquaint with this kind of counselling activity, so that they can identify its main advantages and disadvantages and are able to conduct a career counselling session online.
After completing this unit they should specifically: a) understand the similarities and differences between traditional vs. Online counselling  b) understand the ethical principles of this activity, c) know the historical lines and  research results of Online counselling, d) demonstrate basic (e.g., establishing a counselling relationship) and advanced skills (e.g., problem solving) of Online career counselling; e) understand, evaluate and strategically use  supportive  "websites" counselling and career planning online.
