Teaching Methods

1. Oral presentation, presentation and training with testing materials and rehabilitation programs.

2. Participation in administration, scoring and interpretation of test results. Analysis and discussion of clinical cases in the context of problem-oriented teaching (students use their knowledge of clinical conditions, structure and brain functioning and relate assessment and test results with indications for rehabilitation.

3. e-learning (NONIO platform).

Learning Outcomes

1. To know assessment and rehabilitation (neuro) psychological protocols for elderly.

2. To know techniques (eg, interviews) and main neuropsychological tests and other instruments associated to the examination of different domains (cognitive, functional, psychopathological symptoms, personality), with emphasis on instruments specifically validated for the Portuguese elderly population, including their potentialities and limits.

3. To know specific techniques and programs of cognitive rehabilitation.

Learning outcomes:

1. Demonstrate competence in the administration, scoring and interpretation of results in instruments used in elderly assessment.

2. Demonstrate skills in the selection and implementation of rehabilitation techniques for older adults.

3. Demonstrate ability to articulate and communicate information obtained from the interview, clinical history, test results, measurement of rehabilitation effects in the context of a (neuro)psychological report.

Syllabus

1. A Multidimensional Model of (Neuro)Psychological Assessment in Elderly Adults. Interviews. Cognitive screening (MMSE, ACE-R, ADAS-Cog, CDR, DRS-2), Memory (FCSRT), Attention/Executive Functions (Cancellation, 3 signals, TMT, SVF / PVF), Processing Speed (Symbol Search, Digit Symbol-Coding/WAIS-III). Functional Capacity IAFAI). Symptomatology/socio-affective domain (GDS-30, GAI). Personality (EPQ-R, HAP, NPI). Quality of Life (WHOQOL-OLD).

2. Model(s) and Rehabilitation Programs for Elderly. Cognitive aging and stimulation, guiding principles of intervention, including the measure of its effectiveness, computer programs (e.g., Rehacom, Gradior), mental prosthetics (e.g., NeuroPage, SenseCam), "+ Memória". Case studies.
