Recommended Prerequisites

Students are recommended to have frequented and obtained approval in the following C.U.’s of the 1st cycle of studies: Family Psychology (optional); Systemic and Psycho-dynamic Examples (compulsory, 3rd year, 1st semester). The student must have a good knowledge of English (reading) as many bibliographical references are in English.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical and practical use of methods allowing display and discussion of specific readings and clinical materials  (e.g. tags, videos)  articulated by active methods  (e.g. role-playing) to train technical application.

Learning Outcomes

Objectives: to present and explore the different approaches to family therapy and systemic intervention, ranging from the classic to the most current and integrated, both in terms of the conceptual target system(s) and context intervention. Providing a progressive integration of theory and clinical practice.

Skills: knowing and analysing the different examples and applying them adequately, understanding and critically analysing major forms of psychotherapy and systemic action and learning to apply them; knowing the mapping of systemic psychotherapy as a target function of system intervention (individual or context) and their specifically related interventions.

Introduction: History of family therapy

Module I - Examples*

1. Classical examples: structural, communication (strategic and school of Milan) and trans-generational

2. Constructivist examples: collaborative therapy, narrative therapy and brief family therapy (MRI, therapy focused on solutions and curiosity)

3. Empirically supported programmes 

Module II - Methods *

1. Systemic Psychotherapy with the individual, with couples and family

2. Network interventions, community family therapy, multi-family therapy and psycho-educational groups

3. Intervention in different settings: school, community and forensic settings

 

* The presentation and investigation of sub-themes is organized according to the following topics: 1) assumptions, 2) therapy goals, 3) changing conditions, 4) technique training and 5) evaluation
