Teaching Methods
Lectures: expository method supported by “hand outs” (Power Point slides, available as PDF documents);
Practical courses: expository method (brief theoretical outlining), research work in classroom context and respective synthesis reports; simulation cases.
Learning Outcomes
- Knowledge of fundamental classical and contemporary currents of though within Epistemology, as well of the respective authors and schools of thought;
- Development of supported critical reflective thought concerning core issues of scientific research in Psychology
- Knowledge of ethical foundations of deontological Codes.
- Critical analysis of the Deontological code of the Portuguese College of Psychologists. Relevance of the Code to the regulation this professional activity
- Familiarization with and training of technical terms
- Familiarization with perennial and emergent ethical themes
-To become aware of the counselor or consultant characteristics, behaviors and philosophies that influence the helping process.
-To become aware of the client or consultee characteristics, behaviors and philosophies that influence the helping process.
-To become aware about factors such as cultural diversity
- To be ablel to demonstrate basic helping skills in simulated situations

1. Ethics
- Morals and Ethics. Analysis of ethical problems in the History of Philosophy: from ethics of virtues to ethics of rational critique until to present ethics relativism.
- General foundations of Deontological Codes: responsibility, equity, rectitude, respect and competence.
- Deep analysis of the Deontological Code of the Portuguese College of Psychologists.
- Discussion of practical examples, regarding ethical decisions, in several fields of intervention in Psychology.
2. Themes - Ethics in Psychology – work reports about ethic in Experimental, Clinical, Organizational, Forensics contexts.
3. The Psychologist: Person and Professional
- Gender, Ethnicity, Cultural Differences; Personal Characteristics; Training and self-knowledge along the life span
