Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics.

Teaching Methods

Lectures include, as much as possible, simple experiments to introduce each heat transfer mode, stimulating critical thinking throughout the learning process, and exploring the fundamental concepts when applied to examples present in different engineering aplications.

Practical classes are devoted to the interactive analysis and solving of practical problems where the application of the theoretical knowledge connects, as much as possible to engineering practice.

Methods of assessment:

- 2 Midterm exams (Normal Season);

- Exam (Recourse Season).

Learning Outcomes

In this course, the student learns to distinguish the different mechanisms of heat transfer – conduction, convection and radiation –, the underlying physics, as well as its relevance and conjugation in a variety of problems within the scope of thermal engineering.

The student develops skills for characterizing heat transfer in thermal processes, based on the fundamental laws of the different modes of heat transfer, combined in energy balances, and applying the acquired knowledge to the thermal analysis of several examples in engineering systems and dimensioning of the most common types of heat exchangers.
