Recommended Prerequisites

The pre-requisites of this course are those corresponding to the application for the MSc course CMM.

Teaching Methods

Lectures (30 hours) with detailed exposition, using visual aids, concepts, principles and theories and to solve some practical exercises that meet all the needs of students with guidelines on the matter. Tutorial lessons (22.5 hours) to answer questions.

Learning Outcomes

The aim of this course is to give students the latest knowledge about the timber structures. To describe the historical development of the use of timber in building and engineering structures and to develop an awareness of significance of timber as a traditional structural material. To present the design methods for timber structures.

3. Limit states design (structural members, connections, components, assemblies and composite structures (Euroc. 5).

4. Planar and spatial timber structures.

5. Timber bridges: types, design, connections and maintenance.

6. Fire resistance of timber structures.

7. Durability of timber structures.

8. New materials.

9. Application examples.
