Seminary in Geological Resources and Environment I

Recommended Prerequisites

The student must have academic knowledge in Geosciences given by attendance with approval in curricular units of the 1st cycle in Geology or of the 2nd cycle in Geosciences. He/she must be able to understand the Portuguese language.

Teaching Methods

Presentation of Geological Resources and Environment themes by experts using the expositive methodology or the laboratories of the Earth Sciences Department, FCTUC.
The students have to do a “state-of-art” report focused on issues of Geological Resources and Environment relevant to their research, using digital libraries and others.
Oral presentation of the synthesis work.
Tutorial support to prepare students work and oral presentation.

Learning Outcomes

The aim of this course is to improve and develop knowledge in advanced themes about Geological Resources and Environment.

By the end of this course students will be able to acquire, outline, interrelate and communicate updated knowledge under the theme Geological Resources and Environment, mainly when the subjects are important to develop their own doctoral project.

Syllabus

The syllabus of this Seminar comprises periodic sessions including presentation of current and relevant themes under the scope of Geological Resources and Environment, by specialists in selected topics, and also by the presentation of reports made by the students about relevant issues to their research. So, the syllabus will be adapted according to the students’ investigation goals. For example, if the students’ working programme is on Hydrogeology he/she may learn the principles of hydrogeological modelling, among others.
