Learning Outcomes

Drawing upon an understanding of the development of criminological thought, the objective is to promote a discussion of some contemporary criminological theories. To that end, the main features of the positivist paradigm (i.e. the "delinquent man") will be discussed along with those of the critical paradigm (or the "formal instances of control") and the "criminology of integration" proposal. A few criminological theories that criticize the criminal justice system (namely, the white-collar crime theory, victimology, criminal abolitionism and the theory of restorative justice) will be more closely discussed in order to draw conclusions upon them concerning the chances for the future development of criminal justice.
