Recommended Prerequisites

Photography and Composition from Design and Multimedia Course, on FCTUC, or similar curricular units from other courses in which Visual Contemporary Cultural is relevant.

Teaching Methods

Each class has a theory four hours period and another two hours practice. In this period students will be presenting their projects and works. There will a group discussion as well as an analysis by the teacher. The progress of practical projects will be tracked in class and through email.

Evaluation consists of two practical projects (75%) and one theoretical test (25%).

Learning Outcomes

This subject aims to allow students to know Cross-Disciplinary Practices on Photography, Cinema and Video. It will be shown a wide range of cinema and video works influenced by photography, but also experimental short films and animations that deal with the fact that video is a seen as a technology and a way of expression. Students will experience the transformation of the gallery trough video-installation apparatus.

An important goal is to stimulate students to be involved in developing personal projects, on photography and video, articulating theory with practice.

2 - Photography and Cinema: conceptual transits ((Larry Clark, Robert Frank…)

3 - Cinema and Visual Arts: contaminations(Matthew Barney, Pedro Costa…) ;

4 - Experimental Cinema ( Short Movies from Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Shirin Neshat...)

5 - Visual Arts and Video: singularity and autonomy (Bill Viola, Sam Taylor Wood, Pierre Huyghe…)

6 - Video and Document: films on artists.

7 - A panoramic view of Portuguese Contemporary Video-Art.
