Recommended Prerequisites

Level C1 in Portuguese is a prerequisite for all courses in the program.

Teaching Methods

Student collaborationis thepriviledged teaechin method. Students are required to actively participate in the organization of a commented anthology of literary texts written in Portuguese, to discuss theoretical reading assignments, to orallly present and discuss work in progress and to submit a final written report/essay.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing  the course, the student is expected to:

1. General skills:

- be able to define, with guided supervision, adequate research goals;

- be capable of selecting, with autonomy, credible and relevant information in the light of the research goals defined;

- plan and write an essay/report on the research carried out, and to present it orally.

2. Specific skills:

- master the core concepts covered in the syllabus;

- understand the history of the literatures written in Portuguese;

- select literary texts that are adequate for different instructional and cultural settings;

- develop strategies for teaching literature that account for the specificity of learners of PFL and of PSL.
