Recommended Prerequisites
Completion of Russian-Portuguese Translation I, or language skills in Russian corresponding to CEFR level A1.1.
Teaching Methods
The work carried out in class involves four stages:
– the teacher presents the topic and structure of texts; new grammar items are systematized in exercises;
– students carry out work of translation individually or in groups;
– in the following session translations are checked and problems encountered are discussed by the whole class;
– the final version of the translation is completed.
Special attention is paid to work with dictionairies and databases.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the semester, students should be able to:
– Master basic notions of Russian grammar and vocabulary corresponding to CEFR level A1.2;
– Develop a general competence in translating beginner's level texts using the dictionary;
– Develop writing and reading skills corresponding to CEFR level A.1.2;
– Understand vocabulary related to current social and political issues;
– Deepen their knowledge of Russian social and cultural realities;
– Know how to use Russian dictionaries and grammars as translation support tools.
This seminar prepares students for the next level of Russian Portuguese translation or to continue their learning autonomously.

1. Basic notions of Russian grammar corresponding to CEFR level A 1.2. and their application to translation;
2. Expansion of basic vocabulary and work with Russian-Portuguese and Portuguese-Russian dictionaries;
3. Reading comprehension exercises and translation of different kinds of non-literary texts with explanation of linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic content.
