Teaching Methods

– Lectures to introduce both the singularity of these philosophical idioms and the topics of the syllabus

– Presentation of individual research by students

– Collective discussion based on the course bibliography

– Discussion of final paper with the instructor (this paper is designed to develop research, planning and writing skills).

Learning Outcomes

Students are expected to acquire competence in the philosophical areas and topics addressed in the course. This includes:
– recognizing of the singularity of philosophical idioms;
– developing reading and research skills, and the ability to think and to present their ideas orally and in writing;
– the ability to translate the philosophical knowledge acquired according to a certain idea of the University;
– rethinking “globalization” and some of its fundamental problems critically (see syllabus 1);
- recognizing the inventive and irreclaimable nature of art (syllabus 2);
– awareness of the need for and fundamental importance of Philosophy in the context of other areas of (humanist, social and technoscientific) knowledge and citizenship.

Syllabus 1: Philosophy, Ethics and Politics
Idioms of Hospitality and Resistance: Lévinas e Derrida
Hospitality, responsibility and justice are the topics to be explored in order to, with Emmanuel Lévinas and Jacques Derrida, approach the noncondition of both philosophical thought and “subjective identity”, and rethink “Citizenship”, “Democracy” and “Human Rights”.
