Teaching Methods

PhD students must be systematically accompanied by the supervisor in order to, at the end of the first year, submit the project, present it and discuss it through a public defense. The design and public presentation are the assessment elements of the Monitoring Seminar of the Thesis Plan. PhD students will be admitted as doctoral students if they obtain 16 marks as minimum grade in the public defense, in addition to positive assessments in thematic seminars. In the first season the project must be submitted until the 30th of June and in the second season until the 30th of September. The jury will consist of the teacher responsible for the monitoring seminar or by the PhD coordinator, the  supervisor(s) of the project and an examiner who may be a teacher at FPCEUC but that preferably is external to the PhD program or is a teacher external to FPCEUC. The duration of the Public Defense is 45 minutes (15 minute presentation + 15 minutes to the appreciation of the project by the examiners + 15 minute for the doctoral student’s response).
