Teaching Methods

The lectures are grounded in teaching techniques aimed at a teaching/participatory learning:

  • Formulation of goals
  • Use of handouts
  • Structuring the lesson from the analysis of a problem
  • Placement of issues which promote the reasoning
  • Discussion after exposure
  • Exposure complemented by brief summary final

 The exposure technique of lectures is guided by the theme of the lesson, and active/interactive methodology is used whenever possible

Learning Outcomes

•To know the pathophysiology / pathology of extreme temperatures in occupational medicine

•To know the most allergenic substances in Occupational Medicine - Organic and inorganic dusts, feathers, fungi, latex, formaldehyde, silicates

•To identify the adverse effects of sun exposure on the job

•To know how to observe a worker in an emergency situation

•To know the most frequent eye injuries, such as assessing the patient, conduct and treatment

•To know how to evaluate the importance of pain in Occupational Medicine, and in particular lower back pain

•To know of cranio-encephalic trauma the epidemiology, structures involved, mechanisms of injuries, pathophysiology, types of lesions, clinical, imaging, therapeutics and complications / sequelae

•To know the particular aspects of the semiology of headache

•To know general notions about toxicology, toxic agent and intoxications associated with intoxications in PortugalTo know the extreme temperatures to which the working man may be subject
