Teaching Methods
The student’s superviser will play a crucial role in the acquisition of the intended skills. However, the student will be encouraged to perform the experiments by him/herself to experience any difficulties encountered. The discussion of the best experimental approach and the interpretation of the results will allow the student to understand the reasons behind the selection of a certain strategy and what is the most correct interpretation of the data collected. With this knowledge, the student will be able to propose suggestions and technical improvements to overcome the problems faced.
Learning Outcomes
The curricular unit Laboratory Rotation (LR) I expects students to identify and make contact with diverse themes and methodologies that are used in differnt laboratories. In order to familiarize themselves with a wide range of themes, techniques and experimental approaches, students should, typically, choose to undergo LR in research groups that are specialized or focused on different themes. Thus, within the scope of LR, students will be exposed to concrete research situations, giving them the opportunity to critically analyse "in loco" research projects that are currently underway. With LR students are expected to identify the institutions, laboratories or groups where, within the scope of their master thesis, they can find the help and collaborations which will allow them to develop a solid, integrative and multidisciplinary research work.
Work Placement(s)
NoSyllabus
Within the scope of Laboratory Rotations, students will be exposed to real research situations, giving them the opportunity to critically analyse "in loco" research projects that are currently underway. Thus, students should be able to join a research group, making contact with specific day-to-day research, in terms of problems, methodologies, lnguage, interpersonal relations, experiment planning and critical evaluation of obtained results. Students should also be capable of critically evaluating the reasonability and executability of different projects within deadlines. In the end, students should be able to make a more informed and fundamented choice of the research they intend to carry out for their master thesis.
