Teaching Methods

The courses attended by students are, typically, offered under the format of scientific seminars, lectured by nationally and internationally recognized specialists.

Learning Outcomes

MIB allows students the freedom to choose the curricular units (CU) that they want to complete, enabling them to mold their academic path within the Course, according to their scientific objectives. In addition to the core courses that are transversal to all MIB specialization areas, at the start of the course students enroll in CU identified by codes (AI010, AI105-AI405), allowing for a higher flexibility in the courses they opt to attend. Thus, students may adjust their academic path throughout the year, and are not forced to define the courses that they want to complete at enrollment and registration. Students are expected to attend advanced courses in the biomedcial sciences field, in articulation with other post-graduate programmes of UC, or other higher learning institutions, particularly in MIB specialization fields, allowing for a solid and robust scientific and technical training which will allow them to successfully carry out a quality masters dissertation.

Syllabus

Within the scope of this curricular unit, students should attend advanced courses that fit their scientific and technical objectives, which should be aligned with the strategic designs of MIB, namely, concerning scientific specialization fields. For this, students may attend, among others, courses offered by the Doctoral Programmes in "Health Sciences", of FMUC, "Experimental Biology and Biomedicine", of CNC, "Biomedical Engineering" of FMUC-FCTUC, as well as the Master Courses in "Cellular and Molecular Biology", "Biochemistry" and "Pharmaceutical Sciences". Thus, in addition to more general and transversal courses such as "Molecular Mechanisms of Disease", "Animal Disease Models", "Biophysics", "Bioimaging", "From research to clinical practice", students may attend more specific and focused courses, within MIB specialization fields, such as "Oncobiology and Cancer", "Vision Sciences", "Neurobiology and Disease" and "Ageing".
