Teaching Methods
In this CU, students will have the opportunity to directly discuss with national and international scientists, who carry out high impact scientific research, in diverse fields of cellular biology, constituting an unique opportunity for students to directly and informally interact with internationally renowned specialists in fields relevant for the projects to be developed by students within the scope of their masters thesis. The course also has a practical component, which includes laboratory experimental work.
Learning Outcomes
The main objective of this course is to provide students with basic technical and scientific knowledge in areas related with biomedical research, including cell and molecular biology, physiology and molecular mechanisms of disease and development of new therapeutical strategies. The competencies gathered in this course allow the students to understand and integrate other more advanced and differentiated scientific contents covered in other specialized courses.
Work Placement(s)
NoSyllabus
Seminars and talks given by national and international highly reputed scientists in the areas of molecular and cell biology, cell signalling, cell cycle, physiology, development and organogenesis, regenerative medicine, gene therapy, new therapeutical approaches, etc. These themes will be presented and taught in the context of biomedical research. The students will have the opportunity to develop, in a lab environment (hands on), some of the contents covered in the seminars. The practical component includes the execution of a groupd of experiemental procedures, where students will have the opportunity to follow biochemical, cellular and molecular biology techniques, genetic manipulation, protein overexpression in mammalian cells, confocal microscopy, western blot, etc.
