Law of the Land Use and Urban

Recommended Prerequisites

Acquaintance with constitutional law and administrative law (administrative justice included) is assumed as a requirement for students to get the best out of the course. In order to come into contact with legal scholarship output in Spanish, Italian, French or German, proficiency in foreign languages is recommended.

Teaching Methods

Brief presentation by the instructor on the core topics of the law of urbanism; each student shall present in class a topic indicated by the instructor, followed by discussion; elaboration, in-class presentation and discussion of a paper on a topic selected by each student.

Learning Outcomes

Provide the principles and framework of Portuguese Law of Land-Use Planning and Urbanism and raise students' awareness concerning the importance of this special part of today's administrative law, so as to enable them at the end of the programme be able to study and widen their knowledge by themselves, as legal practitioners in the area of urbanism, or with a view to pursue doctoral research.
