Recommended Prerequisites
Only students with a final grade of 14 or higher - obtained either from the core courses from their area of expertise or from the specialization programme - will qualify to write a dissertation.
Teaching Methods
The dissertation will be completed under the advisor’s supervision, whose role is to widen up the student’s research horizon and foster autonomous reflection on the legal topic selected.
Final assessment of the dissertation will be held in a public discussion format before a five-member examining board.
Learning Outcomes
The course aims at the preparation of a unique dissertation in which the student tackles a legal topic and finds out different possible solutions to it.
After completion of the dissertation, students are expected to prove they have gained enough training to pursue in-depth research on a topic within his/her own specific area of expertise. The following skills are especially important: in-depth knowledge of legal doctrine and court decisions (both at the domestic and, for certain cases, the international levels); ability to reflect on doctrinal and case law currents; ability to formulate and solve legal issues, both at the dogmatic and the positive law levels.
