Recommended Prerequisites

Knowledge of Portuguese language and at least one foreign language, preferably English.

Teaching Methods

Individual guidance and participation in thematic workshops to be defined along the elaboration of the thesis and depending on the chosen topics as essential to thesis development.

Evaluation, provided by the supervisor, set in line with progress made in preparing the thesis, with a view to its conclusion. Final evaluation will be done by qualified and independent panel proper to the thesis’ topic.

Learning Outcomes

Preparation of a thesis in the field of Advanced Studies on Architectural and Urban issues, leading to the Degree of Doctor in Architecture by the University of Coimbra.

This thesis must meet the requirements of originality, relevance and pertinence in that domain.

Syllabus

Tutorial and individual guidance aiming the production, by the student/author, of a thesis in the field of Advanced Studies on Architectural and Urban issues, leading to the Degree of Doctor in Architecture by the University of Coimbra.

The research should be developed within the subject area of architecture and take into account our time of rapid deepening of knowledge and expertise in various professional fields and scientific areas.

The development of research should be developed by placing new theories or presenting and analyzing new facts, or even interrelating in a new way, facts and theories established for the advancement of knowledge, in order to transform the apparently inexplicable in predictable result.

The development of research should be designed in order to be irreplaceable in relation to professional practice, and relevant in relation to the raised issues.
