Teaching Methods

Students and teachers work in a studio environment, accompanied by lectures / conferences, study visits, discussions and presentation of case studies. The results are presented to the faculty and students and to external agents directly related to the themes and areas of study.

Learning Outcomes

The course Advanced Project in Landscape Architecture covers issues that are considered fundamental for the acquisition of a holistic view of the study of fixed landscape phenomena or changing, and addressing the complexity of Landscape Architecture body of knowledge. Each year will be chosen a case study (Case study) that will be object of study of the discipline. This case study is prepared annually by the teachers in charge of each of the universities involved, alternately Lisbon, Coimbra and Porto.

Syllabus

The UC PAAP was established as a practical discipline that allows the student to improve methods and theories in project applied at various scales. It starts with a large-scale landscape unit that addresses issues of general landscape for the particular and from theory to practice. Exercise is of metropolitan dimension in the following territories: Tagus Estuary, Surround the historic core of Coimbra, Metropolitan Network Port Parks.

Case study of the context within the landscape policies in conjunction with decision-making processes;

Obtaining, handling and integration of specialized databases, statistics and monographs;

Methodologies and tools for analysis and diagnosis of the landscape;

Identification of potential and constrains;

Definition of planning and management strategies;

Preparation of proposals for intervention;

Assessment and monitoring.
