Recommended Prerequisites
A. Knowledge – there are educational concepts and techniques teached in previous units that allow the correct understanding of this preclinical unit, such as: Head and neck anatomy, Dental anatomy, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Imagiology, Dental materials, Oral microbiology and Preventive Dentistry.
B. Skills and Attitudes – English, Information and communications technology, Proactivity, Professionalism, Proper clothing and personal appearance, Interpersonal communication skills.
Teaching Methods
At the beginning of each lecture, the learning objectives to be achieved are set. A special emphasis on activating previous knowledge, interaction with students and conceptual contextualization. Before the end of each lecture is given the opportunity to students to answer questions and carried out a synthesis of the subjects presented in class. The exposure of the material is made using updated computer tools and software that would promote student engagement. Summaries of the presentations and the recommended bibliography at the end of each lesson taught are available.
Learning Outcomes
Identify and describe the root anatomy and internal morphology of the different types of teeth. Recognize and describe the clinical aspects and imaging of pulpitis, pulp necrosis, apical periodontitis, internal and external root resorption, trauma and congenital anomalies, evidencing a detailed knowledge of the different methods for diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
Have an in-depth knowledge of the etiology and evolution of these pathologies.
Demonstrate satisfactory non-surgical root canal preparation and filling of teeth with classical techniques of hand instrumentation, in accordance with the biological and mechanical principles.
Acquisition of theoretical knowledge, describing them (skills Grade I ). Application of theoretical knowledge to practical exercises with teaching monitoring (competence level II). Application of theoretical knowledge to practical exercises autonomously when required ( practical examinations ) (III degree of competence ).
