Teaching Methods
The learning methodology of the course is project-based. There are no lectures and the student work under the supervision of a faculty member.
After obtaining approval in the Qualifying exam, each student chooses, a set of possible research topics. The definition of the thesis topic and of the methodology will be improved in the Economics Seminars course unit. The student shall write the thesis proposal under the supervision of the advisor. The presentation and discussion of the theses proposals takes place in April. The coordinators integrate the evaluation jury.
Learning Outcomes
The student must be able (i) to analyse, interpret, discuss and summarise the main contributions of the literature to the chosen topic; (ii) to formulate relevant research questions; (iii) to identify and discuss the appropriate methodology to address the research questions; (iv) to write an original thesis proposal using the knowledge acquired in previous course units of the programme; (v) to present orally a research proposal.
The course unit intends to develop students’ ability to use their knowledge to formulate an original thesis proposal. It also intends to improve their, oral and written, capacity to present a scientific research proposal.
