Teaching Methods

The theoretical approach carried out in class will be complemented with textual analysis. The participation of students will be systematically requested either through oral participation or with regard to the presentation of papers.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the semester students should be able to assess the evolution of Portuguese Literature from the 19th to the 21st century, to discuss issues concerning literary (re)creation and identify and relate manifestations of literary movements. It is also expected that students develop imaginative, interpretative and argumentative skills.

3. The emergence of the realistic and naturalist novel

4. The '­isms ' of end of century: the ruptures of the ‘new’  poets

5. The periodological problematics of Modernism

6. Ideology and fictional practice of the neo­realist novel

7. The periodological problematics of Post­Modernism.
