2nd Cycle Studies - Mestrado
Recommended Prerequisites
It is recommended that the student has knowledge on health area, namely pharmacology and pharmacokinetics. Additionally, it is desirable to know English and Spanish, as foreign invetigators can give some lectures as well as some supporting material can be provided in these languages.
Teaching Methods
Theoretical classes will consist of oral exposition of the subjects, with integrated pedagogical methodologies (collaborative learning and flipped learning) that encourage the student's active participation in the learning process and motivate them.
Theoretical-practical classes will be based on the case-based learning (CBL) methodology, consisting on the discussion of clinical cases that apply theoretical concepts and simultaneously simulate the reality of clinical practice, with analysis, interpretation and discussion of results.
Learning Outcomes
• Identify the objectives and object of study of Clinical Pharmacokinetics;
• Knowing sources of inter- and intra-individual variability that condition the efficacy and safety of drugs;
• Name the reasons underlying the use of Clinical Pharmacokinetics in Dosage Individualization;
• Identify drugs and special populations that should be subject to pharmacokinetic monitoring;
• Apply pharmacokinetic parameters in dosage individualization/optimization;
• Apply different techniques and computer programs for monitoring and dosing individualization;
• Explain the procedure and need for pharmacokinetic monitoring of drugs at hospital level (antibiotics, antiepileptics, immunosuppressants, antidepressants, antipsychotics);
• Define new or optimized posology regimen.
Work Placement(s)
NoSyllabus
• General concepts of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, biopharmaceutical phase, excretion, disposition, elimination and therapeutic range;
• Characteristics of drugs and subpopulations subject to pharmacokinetic monitoring;
• Organization of a clinical pharmacokinetics service;
• Identify and predict the impact of inter- and intra-individual variability factors on the AMDE of drugs;
• Dosage individualization methods;
• Pharmacokinetic monitoring of antibiotics, antiepileptics, immunosuppressants, antidepressants, antipsychotics and their relationship with the disease;
