Recommended Prerequisites
Acquired knowledge in 1st Cycle Courses in the areas of Basic Studies in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Biomedicine, Bio-analytical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences and other courses considered adequate by the Coordination of the Master Course.
Teaching Methods
Theoretical classes. Lectures with presentation and discussion of relevant examples.
In the theoretical-pratical classes, case studies will be presented and discussed.
Learning Outcomes
Objectives:
This curricular unit aims to endow the students with knowledge on the information sources in the areas of chemistry, biology and health sciences, through the use of specialized databases, namely about chemical compounds, their biological properties, prediction and calculation of molecular properties, information on drugs, their physic-chemical and toxicological properties. Moreover, emphasis will be given to the study of the legal aspects of protection of industrial property of products, processes and new uses of products. Finally, national and international regulations for the production and approval of drugs will be discussed.
Specific competences:
- To have the ability to use databases to get information on health sciences and technologies.
- To understand the relevance of technological development and of its protection for the progress of economy.
- To be acquainted with the national and international regulatory rules of drug protection.
