Teaching Methods

In the curricular unit various teaching methods will be considered, with emphasis on expository and active methods, being used diverse strategies of teaching and learning.

Learning Outcomes

This curricular unit has the main purpose of promoting a reflection based on the size and capacity of local intervention in education. Learning outcomes are the following:

To define and characterize the scope of educational action and its manifestations in non-formal, formal and informal areas.

To define different development concepts situating them in time.

To characterize sustainable development and human development.

To define municipality in the perspective of Public Administration and Law.

To outline the main provisions of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic on municipalities.

To identify and characterize different periods within the relation between municipalities and education.

To appreciate different mechanisms and instruments of strategic planning in municipalities.

To characterize the powers and competences of local municipalities in education.

- Centralization and decentralization and administration of the education system

- Evolution of the concept of development.

- Sustainable Development and Human Development

- The course of municipal intervention in education in Portugal until 1974

- Local authorities and their intervention in education in democratic Portugal.

- Organizations and instruments of strategic planning and organization of education in the municipalities

- Educational projects and local development.

- The Challenge of the Educating City and the possibility of civic-educating centers.

- The local government and the diversity of cases.

Assessment
Assessment will always consists of two or more moments: for example, an exam and the preparation of a paper, and will be previously defined with student: 100.0%
