Recommended Prerequisites

Basicknowledge of anatomy, injury and human pathology.

Teaching Methods

Lectures with powerpoint presentations and handouts with the basic theoretical contents to be acquired in this area.

Theoretical and practical component based presentation and discussion of actual cases illustrating the theoretical knowledge acquired.

Practice with direct observation of injuries and changes described in theoretical classes and application of knowledge acquired in the course of autopsies assistance.

Know the scope and limitations of the expertises carried out in this area.

Understand the importance of forensic autopsy and its goals.

Identify the different types of injuries and alterations found in many situations of natural and violent death.

Forensic pathology and forensic dentistry. Autopsy and forensic report. Pathophysiology of death: checking and death certification. Mechanisms / causes of death. Aspects of site survey.
Principles of pathology; complications of lesions. Frequent pathology in the forensic field.
Advantages / disadvantages of virtopsy.
Self-inflicted injuries / defense. Dating / classification of injuries.
Autopsy on poisoning suspected / exhumations / mechanical asphyxia / physical agents / chemical / biological / traffic accidents / torture / legal custody / related to surgical procedures / inhibition and sudden death / related with sports / abuse / neglect / weapons fire / explosives / hyperthermia / hypothermia / disbarismo / barotrauma / knives / disaster pasta / armed conflict / risk situations / victims of sexual assault / pregnancy / birth / abortion / Sudden Infant Death / infanticide / fetal death in utero. Conservative body processes. Artefacts post-mortem.
