Recommended Prerequisites

Basic knowledge about the objectives of the different areas of law, namely, Criminal Law, Civil Law and Labour Law.

Teaching Methods

Lectures with powerpoint presentations, followed by discussion and reading legal materials.

Learning Outcomes

The Students hall understand the differences between International Law, Criminal Law, Civil Law and Administrative Law in the filed of Health Regulation.

In the filed of private health law, patient’s rights and duties are explained and the legal system of liability in private and public health institutions.

Concerning criminal law, the legal types of crime are explained as well as the issue of euthanasia and abortion, forensic psychiatry and reporting of crimes during the occupation.

The student should also know the legal issues related to the human genome, the expert activity and the Medico-Legal Portuguese organization; the transplantation of organs and tissues of human origin and the use of cadavers for teaching and research purposes, and relevant post-effectiveness of personal rights and ethics and legal protection of respect for the memory and the corpse of the deceased.

Knowledge of the human genome: legal aspects.

The Filiation Law and forensic genetics.

The Medical Confidentiality.

The duty of confidentiality and personal data protection; access to clinical documentation.
