Teaching Methods

The teaching and learning methodologies used are diverse, being used a combination of transmissive teaching, bibliographic summaries, socratic questioning, watching films / web resources, demonstrations, readings and critical analysis of scientific articles based on empirical studies and discussions in small groups. Also important is the analysis of national and international statistical indicators available on aspects of aging. The reflection on the role of the State and public policies will also be part of the strategies used.

Learning Outcomes

1. To understand the field of study and intervention of gerontopedagogy in the framework of lifelong education.

2. To know the aging phenomenon in different perspectives: demographic, biological, cognitive, emotional, social and family.

3. To understand the importance of educating for healthy and participatory aging in contemporary societies, as well as knowing the main programs of stimulation and intervention.

4. To reflect on the importance of active citizenship and gender issues in aging and for the improvement of the quality of life and to understand different forms of discrimination that older people can undergo and intervention strategies.

5. To understand the influence of family, community and institutional contexts in promoting quality of life of older people.

6. To reflect critically about the role of the Master graduate in ES, in this domain, for the promotion of active aging, following the most current paradigm proposed by WHO.
