The student should hold a graduate degree in the generic field of literary studies, with an emphasis on Portuguese literature and other Portuguese-language literatures. The student should also show an impeccable language proficiency in Portuguese. The knowledge of two foreign languages, one of them being English, in the framework of the reading competence for educational purposes, is also recommended.
Teaching Methods

The student will be encouraged to contribute with his/her own personal reflection to the analysis and questioning of the subjects of this course unit, following the summaries and questions presented by the teacher. The contribution of the student presupposes his/her planned participation in seminars, later to be discussed, with the support of theoretical texts or case studies.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this course unit, the student should be able to develop advanced questions posed by Portuguese literature in the various aspects stated in the course contents and in direct relation with topics and subtopics of literary theory, within a perspective that goes beyond the context of national literatures. At the same time, the student should have the competence to choose between domains or fields of study that, in line with the scientificeducational field of the 2nd Cycle of studies, allow him/her to develop research leading to the attainment of the Master's Degree.
