Recommended Prerequisites
Knowledge about the interpersonal, intercultural and interlinguistic dimensions of translation. Mastery of Portuguese language and any of its diatopic variations. Attendance to Italian-Portuguese Translation I is recommended.
Teaching Methods
Theoretical analysis made by the lecturer; management of translation tools supervised by the lecturer; translation practice and analysis. The techniques and theoretical knowledge presented provide the basis for practical work of translation. Activities will be scheduled in an integrated way: individual and group translation of texts related to theoretical exposition; definition of research tools to use; translation options; critical evaluation of translations.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the semester, students should
1. Know how to select the appropriate resources for each specific task and be able to justify the choice;
2. Have the skills to create and explain possible translation strategies;
3. Correctly translate informative texts corresponding to level B2 of CEFR.

1. Grammatical and discursive aspects in translation from Italian to Portuguese, through a contrastive bidimensional perspective and with sporadic reference to other EU languages. Prepositions, conjunctive tenses, irregular verbs, subordination, lexical enlargement, conceptual lexicon, neologisms, idiomatic expressions.
2. Dimensioning the text accordingly to its translation.
3. Critical reflection about the functioning of the two languages in a contrastive approach from the standpoint of translation.
4. Deepening of the use of tools as technical and semantic-pragmatic support.
5. Translation exercise from Italian to Portuguese.
