Teaching Methods
Expository methods are used to introduce key concepts and theoretical approaches, and interactive methods to discuss the topics and texts proposed for each session, including also exercises of analysis, comparison and production of translations both individually and in group.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the semester, students should be able to
C1– analyze texts of different genres, particularly from the viewpoint of translation;
C2– make a critical analysis of translations; distinguish, describe and evaluate the choices and strategies used in different translations of the same text;
C3– apply appropriate translation strategies to texts of different genres and fields;
C4– translate a wide variety of legal texts;
C5– apply the knowledge acquired in the 1st semester seminars, namely Theory of Translation, Advanced Composition Skills and Technical Writing, and Applied Informatics and Terminology.

P1. Linguistic issues in technical and scientific translation;
P2. Strategies for translating technical and scientific texts;
P3. Translation of highly specialized articles;
P4. Linguistic issues in biomedical translation; communicative situation, sociocultural shifts, intercultural communication;
P5. Fundamental concepts in Spanish and Portuguese law; Complex issues in legal translation;
P6. Translation of different legal text genres (contracts, rulings, agreements, etc.);
P7. Audiovisual and comics translation;
P8. Translation of childrens' literature;
P9. Comparative analysis of Spanish and Portuguese versions of the same parallel text;
P10. Comparison of different translations of the same text;
P11. Discussion of theoretical texts on specialized translation;
P12. Translation of texts, in group and individually.
