Recommended Prerequisites

It is strongly recommended that students have previously completed the following units: Behaviour Modification, Psychopathology I, Psychopathology II. Most of the bibliography will be in English.

Teaching Methods

In the theoretical classes, the preferred method consists of lectures accompanied by clinical cases reports. In practical classes, several clinical cases will be presented allowing students to acquire clinical evaluation and intervention competencies. Role-play activities with discussions will be promoted in a regular basis.

Learning Outcomes

Students are expected (1) to know the CBT assessment process, (2) to know the CBT based theory for depression and anxiety disorders, and (3) to develop skills on clinical case assessment, case conceptualization and intervention strategies, according to the evidence based interventions principles.

Competencies:

Theoretical

1. Knowledge on cognitive-behavioral assessment procedures along the intervention process;

2. Knowledge on cognitive-behavioural conceptualization of depression, anxiety disorders (social phobia) and insomnia;

Practical:

1. Cognitive-behavioural assessment skills;

2. Cognitive-behavioural therapeutic intervention skills on specific disorders.
