Learning Outcomes

 Identify / characterize basic components of the organizational structure, describe the impact of its main determinants, and identify the organizational configurations proposed by Mintzberg

- Explain the genesis and the development of a group; identify types and functions of groups in organizations and characterize group functioning models identifying input variables, mediators / moderators (processes / emergent states) and output variables, and discussing, based on literature, their interrelationships

- Indicate and discuss critically the leadership approaches

- Define conflict and conflict types; recognize the stages of the conflict process and identify conflict handling strategies and their potential effects; recognize the role of third party intervention and identify third party intervention types and styles

- Recognize measurement instruments of organizational processes

- Mintzberg’s Organizational Configurations

2. Organizational Processes

2.1. Groups in Organizations

- The group as a system: models of group functioning and its components

- Input variables, mediators / moderators and group results: some structural and context variables; processes and emergent states; effectiveness

- Group Development: approaches and perspectives

- Types and functions of groups in organizations

2.2. Power and Conflict

- Conflict and conflict management: types of conflict; conflict as a process; conflict handling strategies and their potential effects; intervention of a third party

2.3. Leadership

- Leadership approaches: traits perspective, approaches focused on leadership styles, situational and contingent approaches, models of charismatic leadership and transformational leadership; "post-heroic" approaches
