Teaching Methods

This curricular unit has a theoretical character so the expository approach is more emphasized as a teaching methodology. Nevertheless, in some classes, more interactive strategies for the appropriation of knowledge are promoted, through the use of audiovisual material, document analysis, interpretation and discussion of texts, among others.

Learning Outcomes

The discipline intends to explain the ontological/epistemological/political bases of S.W. For this purpose it is structured in : explicitation of the object and nature of S.W; historical bases of emergence and institutionalization. The objectives are : i)understand the specificity object of the S.W ii)analyze the ideological scientific and political foundations inherent to the theoretical/conceptual/methodological construction of the SW iii)explain and analyze the historical, cultural, political, social and ideological frameworks underlying the genesis and institutionalization as a profession iv)understand the process and the specificities inherent to the institutionalization of the S.W in Portugal v)identify and think about the current challenges and orientations of the profession. In the end of thdiscipline the student must be able to explicitly and critically discuss the nature and specificity of the object of SW, its historical roots and connections between profession and contexts
