Teaching Methods

The lecture and laboratory are taught to enable students to grasp selective and integrated scientific knowledge. Subjects are systematized, aiming to achieve the competencies that are established for this teaching unit. The lectures have lasting sixty minutes and follow the model of masterful lesson. In the exhibition uses the data "show." Simultaneously, the classes are available in “Nónio”. Laboratory classes lasting two hours to allow practical work described above and contribute to the achievement of the proposed objectives.

Learning Outcomes

Theoretical Skills

– Apply to the study of Galenical Pharmacy, the most important knowledge previously,seized ;

– Understand and apply the concepts, ideas, methods and specific terminology to the curricular unit;

– Have an overview of the design, formulation, preparation, dispensing and administration of pharmaceutical compounding;

– Be aware of the technological and therapeutic advantages of different studied compounded medications.

Skills laboratory

– Use the information contained in pharmacopoeias and other information sources in the formulation, preparation and control of compounded medications;

– Good practices to be followed in the preparation of compounded drugs in dispensing at pharmacy and hospital; Packaging and labelling of pharmaceutical preparations, according with regulamentar rules;

– Interpretation of prescriptions containing officinal and magistral formulations;

– Identifying new solutions for individual compounding prepared in hospital pharmacy.

Laboratory program

Contact with some essential tools in the preparation of medicines in the Pharmacy.

Preparation of a simple powder. Sieving without residue and classification of sieves. Preparation of composite powders.

Preparation of gelatin capsules.

Preparation of solutions.

Preparation of suspensions for oral administration.

Preparation of suspension for topical administration to the oral mucosa and an emulsion for oral administration

Preparation of various types of ointments. Demonstration and use of Topitec device.

Preparation of other semi-solid dosage forms.
