Teaching Methods

Sessions are held on seminar model, promoting the collective discussion of texts and working materials relating to the Thesis projects. They are based on the active participation of students, particularly through the presentation of texts and coordination of the collective discussion.

Learning Outcomes

The course prepares students for the development of their Thesis projects.  It promotes:

. transversal debates in contemporary sociological issues;

- readings favoring reflexivity in the field of student Thesis projects;

. discussion of texts and contemporary issues on cities and urban cultures

. debate on research methodologies and writing strategies;

. organizing of information with a view to the doctoral thesis completion.

The study unit is set up in conjunction with Doctoral Seminar II, and focuses mainly on theoretical and conceptual dimensions of the theses’ projects

Syllabus

1. The scientific research and the development of the doctoral thesis;

2. The bibliographic survey and review of the literature.

3. Research Instruments and the organization of information.

4. Writing a thesis and accessing statistical data and documentary sources.

5. Perspectives on current research topics (according to the students’  research topics).
