Recommended Prerequisites

Frequency and approval in the discipline of Biomolecular Organic Chemistry and Therapeutic Chemistry.

Knowledge of organic chemistry, biology and biochemistry. Some knowledge of English.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical classes will be taught by showing slides, which will then be uploaded to the nónio platform.

Theoretical-practical classes will be taught by showing slides and with the active participation of students in solving problems. With regard to retrosynthesis, the exercises are done and explained by the teacher on the board, so that the whole process can be followed up in more detail.

Learning Outcomes

- Define the concept of a drug and study the various types of molecular targets.

- Analyze the different bonds involved in the interaction of drugs with their molecular targets.

- Identify the pharmacophore and define the auxophore and toxicophore

- Know the main strategies of drug design.

- Interpret the principles of design analog.

- Know how to predict the most suitable chemical modifications for interactions with molecular targets.

- Define the basic principles associated with drug synthesis.

- Retrosynthesis. Correctly apply the principles and key points governing the disconnection approach.

- Be able, based on the disconnection carried out, to design the inverse synthesis through the appropriate application of the transformation of functional groups.

- Study the main techniques for controlling preparation reactions and the structural elucidation of drugs.

- Know the basics of the different spectroscopic methods and use them to elucidate organic compounds.
