Recommended Prerequisites
Skills on subjects of the correlated curricular unities of Physical–Chemical and Biological Sciences of the Bioanalytical Sciences Degree of the Bioanalytical Sciences Course.
Knowledge of English Language.
Teaching Methods
Theoretical
Lectures with presentation and discussion of relevant examples. The slides presented are available to students.
The fundamental concepts are illustrated with examples and recent scientific discoveries.
Laboratorial
Students (groups of 2-3) perform experiments where they use the laboratory techniques acquired before, applied to the reactions and extractions of the biomolecules. In these classes, students will also be able to make oral presentations of the experimental works they will perform. Also, in these classes, students make the structural elucidation of biomolecules.
Learning Outcomes
Following Organic Chemistry (LCB) taught in the 1st academic year, this curricular unit intends to focus on some mechanisms of organic reactions and make a more detailed study of certain vital biomolecules, such as amino acids, peptides, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids, either by its biological interest, or its presence in certain harmful phenomena.
