Syllabus

This course unit aims to introduce students to the research on Brazilian literature at a postgraduate level. Taking into account the nature of the degree course they are part of, the course contents will focus on the relation between the mother tongue ("Brazilian Portuguese") and the literature that was historically created in Brazil. To that effect, the course contents' main subjects will be the theoretical, political and educational problems resulting from the historical articulation between the spoken and the written Portuguese language in Brazil and the literature created in the same country. The course contents aim to develop a critical perspective independent from the discourses of Brazilian literary history and criticism, highlighting the specificity of Brazilian Studies developed in Portugal.
