Basic knowledge of English.

Teaching Methods

Combination of lectures, demonstration, discussion and exercises, individually and/or collectively. Students also produce and maintain a translation memory and termbases using the knowledge obtained in the 1st semester translation seminars.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the seminar, students will

1. be familiar with relevant computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools

2. be familiar with basic notions of terminology

3. have consolidated and trained their research skills

4. be able to create and manage translation memories, in articulation with translation seminars

5. be able to create and manage termbases, in articulation with translation seminars

6. be able to find and to apply troubleshooting strategies

7. be familiar with the basics of machine translation and post-editing

8. be familiar with basic notions of audiovisual translation (optional).

Syllabus

The syllabus may include the following items:

a) Advanced MS-Word features (tables, fields, indexes, etc.)

b) Translation oriented internet search

c) Basic notions of terminology

d) Terminology analysis, extraction and managment tools

e) CAT tools – alignment and translation memories

f) Machine translation - basic notions

g) Subtitling (basic notions - optional).
