Basic knowledge of English

Teaching Methods

Lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises. Students will create a translation memory and a termbase as final assignment.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the seminar, students will

1. be familiar with relevant computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools

2. be familiar with basic notions of terminology

3. have consolidated and trained their research skills

4. be able to create and manage translation memories, in articulation with translation seminars

5. be able to create and manage termbases, in articulation with translation seminars

6. be able to find and to apply troubleshooting strategies

7. be aware of the possibilities and limits of machine translation

8. be familiar with basic notions os audiovisual translation (optional).

Syllabus

The syllabus may include the following items:

a) Advanced MS-Word features (tables, fields, indexes, etc.)

b) Translation oriented internet search

c) Basic notions of terminology

d) Terminology analysis, extraction and managment tools

e) CAT tools – translation memories

f) Machine translation - basic notions

g) Subtitling (basic notions - optional)
