Recommended Prerequisites
Mastery of the Italian language and the correlative cultural framework at the minimum level of B1. Mastery of the Portuguese language and the correlative cultural framework at the minimum level of C1.
Teaching Methods
Translation practice, presentation of theoretical aspects, reflection and comparison of translation options. Identification, interpretation and treatment of contrasting phenomena. Work sheets on specific translation problems. Development of small glossaries to support translation. Translation tasks performed at home. Activities of individual and group translation of texts related to the questions raised will be programmed in an integrated manner.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the semester students should:
1) Master the contrasting phenomena studied in terms of morphology, syntactic order, coordination of modes and tenses, qualitems, and neologisms, according to a conceptual basis and its application to the practice of translation.
2) Have the ability to identify and apply the appropriate translation strategies, depending on the text and the communicative situation in question.
3) Be able to choose and use means of research to obtain linguistic, cultural and specialty information.
4) Know how to problematize the options made and evaluate alternatives.
Work Placement(s)
NoSyllabus
1) Translation of informative texts in the fields of journalism, tourism, commercial relations, etc., predominantly written. Functionalist approach.
2) Grammatical and discursive aspects in the translation from Italian to Portuguese, in a contrasting perspective. Morphology: derivational prefixing and suffixation from Latin. Syntax: marked orders; coordination of modes and tenses. Lexicon: qualitems; neologisms; specialized languages.
3) Identification of most frequent phenomena of interference: lexicon, prepositional constructions, modes and tenses.
4) Exploration of instruments to support translation. Digital platforms.
5) Commentary and critical evaluation of the translation.
